Vjosa Osmani is now acting president of Kosovo

Speaker of Kosovo Parliament, Vjosa Osmani, now is acting president of Kosovo.

After Hashim Thaci stepped down from president’s office, Osmani now will assume his duties, until election of the new president, Gazeta Express reports.

According to the Constitution of Kosovo, if the president steps down within his mandate, than his duties will be assumed by the Speaker of Parliament. The President of Kosovo is elected by the Parliament of Kosovo through a secret voting.

Thaci who was elected as president of Kosovo in 2016 for a five-ear mandate has resigned today from the post after the Hague-based Specialist Chambers confirmed an indictment charging him of war crimes. Thaci was political representative of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during 1998-1999 war in Kosovo
