European Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero stressed the importance of implementing the good neighborly agreement between Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria, reports dailynews.mk
Pisonero declined to comment on the disputes between the two sides in recent days, but said good neighborly relations in the Western Balkans and regional co-operation should remain key elements in the enlargement process.
“I think it is very important for us that good neighborly relations in the Western Balkans and regional cooperation remain key elements in the enlargement process, as well as in the stabilization and association process. The Prespa Agreement and the Good Neighbor Agreement with Bulgaria are very positive examples for the region and beyond. “It is very important for us that these bilateral agreements continue to be implemented by all parties,” Pisonero said.
Prime Minister Zaev described Bulgarian Foreign Minister Zaharieva’s statement as “neither good neighborly, nor brotherly, nor European”, and added that if things remain the same, the Macedonian people should be prepared for negotiations with the EU not to begin in December./dailynews.mk
