The agreement with Bulgaria creates a legal framework for the promotion of bilateral relations, the right to self-determination is a fundamental European value, the Government of North Macedonia notes.
The Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation Agreement with the Republic of Bulgaria creates a legal framework and provides a means of managing bilateral issues and we are committed to its implementation, the government told MIA about the memorandum submitted by Sofia to EU member states.
“We are NATO allies with the Republic of Bulgaria, we have a common obligation and duty to improve good neighbourly relations, mutual co-operation and to build friendship”, the government said.
The Government of North Macedonia emphasizes that the right to self-determination is a fundamental European value and the cultural benefits and the uniqueness of the Macedonian language and the national identity of North Macedonia is an indisputable fact.
“The Macedonian language is an integral part of the identity card of North Macedonia at the United Nations and part of the many accepted and recognized modern languages taught at universities around the world. In the 21st century in Europe, the acceptance of the past, but also of the present, reflects a responsible and mature political and true friendship”, believes the government of North Macedonia.
According to the government, allegations and statements containing insults do not lead to friendship.
“Friendship is reciprocal and depends mainly on our respect for European values and principles. The agreement on friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation reflects mutual respect and friendship and implies and requires responsibility and participation from both sides”, the government told MIA.
