The European Commission does not give up on starting negotiations with Northern Macedonia. The European Commission maintains that both sides must find a compromise, and that disputes can be overcome.
“We encourage both sides to continue their efforts to find a solution to their bilateral problems,” Ana Pisonero.
The EU Council of Ministers is due to meet on November 17 to discuss enlargement and to decide on the adoption of the EU negotiating framework with northern Macedonia, but Bulgaria is not giving up and believes that no green light can be given until compromise is found on language issues and historical topics.
“We continue and hope that an agreement can be reached on the negotiating framework in order to hold the first intergovernmental conference as soon as possible,” Pisonero said.
