The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, made an address before the start of the Berlin Process Summit.
He spoke about the European perspective of the six Western Balkan countries.
“The countries of the Western Balkans are in the heart of Europe and their future is in the European Union. That is why our commitment has been and remains strong. It is in the common interest to integrate the Western Balkans to improve their well-being, justice and security. “To face common challenges and work together to find solutions as we are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Borrell said.
Among other things, he stressed that since the beginning of the pandemic, the EU has supported the Western Balkans as financial support provided for medical assistance and the inclusion of this region in the EU procurement mechanism.
Borrell said that after the opening of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia, it is time to work in this direction.
“Regional cooperation needs to overcome the past and build a better future,” he said.
